Otematata Station

Otematata Station

August 2016
I went to a workshop with Scott Fowler
with 4 others. Rowena, Helen, Mary and John.
They were Prelamb Shearing at the Station, it was nice to be back in a Woolshed with all its familiar smells!
we did lots of other things too, night photography, ghosting, hdr,
there were lots of old trucks and stuff around and old buildings to photograph.

This is the Milky Way over the Old Blacksmith Shop
which sits in the middle of the big yard at Otematata Station.
I haven't done much night photography so it was good to try and capture the Milky Way.
I lit the shed up with a torch.

I just loved the old bellows they were massive, I could just visualize the forge working

There was a huge pile of old shoes,
the shed was full of tools, nails all left as if its waiting for the next horse.

Truck Graveyard

my happy place!!
I just love photographing around these old trucks.

It started to rain
which made patterns on the sun baked paintwork of this Vauxhall

An old shepherds hut

Apparently these wheels have been there for a long time
Scott told me they were there when he worked on the station years ago.

One of the top shearers setting the pace

I loved the connection with the Huntaway and his boss while they pen up.

Merinos in the yards waiting their turn.

The farm dogs patiently waiting.

Had to do a few impression images!

Eager to please

They all go through the spray dip after shearing.

This is an hdr of the old kitchen in one of the farm cottages
I took about 6 images of different exposures and later put them together.

The old loading ramp.

This cart is half grown into the willow tree, I wonder how long it has been there?

I set my camera up out side and looked through the window.

This was in an old farm house it was boarded up and very dark
I did a bit of self ghosting.
I've used a filter to make it look spookier!
Capturing light spots.
Light shafts coming through the corrugation.

Scott got up on this truck with a blue torch,
I used a wide angle lens.

The shed all lit up at night.

A Selfie! an enjoyable weekend.
